Aha! Did you even make one? Did you break it already? A study by The University of Scranton, indicated 8% of people keep their New Year’s Resolutions. But, don’t fret! To me, maybe the word resolution is the problem. I’d rather focus on a more positive word.
A friend has challenged me the past few years to pick a word to guide me through the year. I pondered many words: energy, alive, vibrant, enthusiasm, movement, peace, calm, active, connected, engaged, be amazing (I know, 2 words), song, harmony, joy, fun, smile, grateful, happy, balanced, organized, prepared, thoughtful, appreciative and then I found a word that encompasses many facets of these words; “passion”!
Why passion? In order to achieve your “resolutions” or in other words, your goals or dreams for the future, they need to fill you with passion! As a physical therapist, exercise physiologist and health educator, the focus of my “passion” for the year and for this blog involves movement!
I love to move. I love to teach people how to move!
Do you love to move?
Does it hurt to move?
Have you gained weight and now find it difficult to move?
Do you truly just prefer sedentary activities?
No worries! It’s hard to make a health behavior change.
Let’s face it! It isn’t rocket science. We all know, we need to move! So, take a look at yourself. What type of movement are you passionate about?
Do you need to join a group movement activity for the social support? If so, check out MeetUp groups online!
Take a look on our Advanced Rehabilitation & Health Specialists website and join one of our classes! You can even join me on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 6:00 am for BOOT CAMP!
Are you more interested in being active on your own? Check out our Advanced Rehabilitation & Health Specialists “MONTHLY MOVEMENT CHALLENGE for 2022”! What is that you may ask? It’s not too late to join! This virtual platform was designed not only to “get you moving”, but to challenge you to different monthly “healthy” activities with various rewards or prizes each month. Plus, a really cool shirt at the end of the year.
Do you like to dance? Do you like to walk or hike? Do you like to bike? What about yoga? Weight lifting? Swimming? Just stretching in your basement? Try it all…there is some type of “movement” related activity that will ignite your “movement passion”!
Do you like to read? Do you like audiobooks or podcasts? Often, they will help keep you engaged or enthused or become passionate about something. Juli, my business partner has started a “healthy reading book club” and the first book is “The Wellness Project”. To help the author develop a basis for her yearlong self-focused project to learn to manage her health, she consulted with many experts and friends. She asked them what they thought was the most important aspect of health that people should do? I thought about it and my response was “movement”. Her book was quite informative and her main purpose was to relay to her readership, that it is up to you to take control of your own health.
So, as I conclude, I want to highlight, that now is the perfect time to “move” into 2022! Cheers to you as you “move” forward along your health and wellness journey !
